The Honorable Mary Muphy (BA '79), UT Dallas' 2006 Distinguished Alumna, recently received a State Bar of Texas 2007 Presidential Commendation for individual leadership in improving justice in Texas. Judge Murphy serves the 14th District Court.
Dr. Daniel Suson (MS '86, Ph.D '88) was appointed Dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science at Purdue University Calumet on August 1, 2007. Prior to becoming Dean, Dr. Suson was head of the Department of Physics and Geosciences at Texas A&M University, Kingsville.
Dr. Walter Sutton, Jr. (Ph.D. '89) was recently named to the Board of Trustees for Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Dr. Sutton currently serves as associate general counsel for government relations for Wal-Mart.
Teresa Batchelor (BS '91) was appointed controller for the corporate office of Cirrus Health in October. As controller, she will manage the financial operations of the corporate office and report directly to Cirrus Health’s chief financial officer.
Larry Pereira (MBA '94, MA '01) was recently hired as SensorLogic's vice president of marketing. He served as Vice President at Adaptive Instruments Corporation, prior to joining SensorLogic. Mr. Pereira also serves as vice chair of the marketing working group of ISA100, an officer and board member of the NTGTS organization, and WINA organization officer and board member.
Steve Solomon (BA '96) owns Total Quality Photo, an e-commerce business that offers high-quality photographic images for sale, as well as special assignments on a non-exclusive rights basis. He is also a senior quality assurance analyst. His hobbies include digital imaging, tai chi, pa kua and chess. He played in the UTD Chess Club during his undergraduate years, and says that he has a great deal of respect for the chess talent at UTD.
Nikki M. Dossman (BS '98) was named one of four new associates at Christie, Parker & Hale, LLC, a leading intellectual property law firm in California. She earned her JD from the Pepperdine University School of Law.
Sarai Martinez (BS '01) was recently named assistant vice president and commercial loan officer at First United Bank of McKinney.
Carter Pate (MS '03) was recently appointed global and U.S. health industries and government services leader overseeing services across all health-related industries for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. In addition to his new position, he will continue to serve as U.S. managing partner of the firm's federal government practice, a position he has held since 2004. Mr. Pate is also the author of The Phoenix Effect: Nine Revitalizing Strategies No Company Can Do Without.
Amon Simutowe (BS '06) recently became the first sub-Saharan African to be named an international grand master after a series of victories during a recent chess tournament in the Netherlands.
Dr. Eileen Baland (Ph.D '07) is assistant professor of English at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. Dr. Baland earned her Ph.D. in humanities with an emphasis on literary studies from UT Dallas in 2007.
