Congratulations, alumni! You delivered!
Over the past couple of years, we have repeatedly encouraged alumni to participate in the university’s activities, Loyalty Fund and other initiatives. We have talked about the value of your degree from UT Dallas and all that the staff, students, and faculty are doing to make this a great university. The alumni role we emphasized is that of participating.
I’m happy to share with you that the alumni participation rate for FY07 reached an all time high of 7.3 percent. This jumped ahead of the original goal we had set of 5 percent for that year. Now we are heading forward to our next goal of 10 percent and have great confidence this number is attainable. You really do make a difference in the rankings and recognition of UT Dallas. Thank you for taking this role seriously and for responding when we call, write, or email.
Also of note in regard to alumni participation, we are launching a new program for senior class members to bring them quickly and seamlessly into the alumni community. The goal is to bring 10 percent of the Class of 2008 into active participation within the first 12 months of their graduation. Our creative staff will be using electronic communications, website messages, and direct mail to initiate the "Senior Challenge." Stay tuned for more information throughout the year.
Expect a phone call!
This month begins our spring Comet Call phone-a-thon. Our Comet Callers, all UT Dallas students, will be calling alumni who we did not reach in the fall, so enjoy this opportunity to visit with them briefly. I know when my alma mater calls, it is always a pleasure to connect with a current student and hear that youthful enthusiasm and university spirit. Please answer the call, enjoy the conversation and then make a Loyalty Fund gift. Remember that donations of any size are important to the success of this effort. We simply want you to participate!
Mark your calendars for March 29!
I hope that many of you will be able to attend the Alumni Awards Dinner on March 29. More details are on the alumni website and in this issue of Alumni Link. The Alumni Awards Dinner is our annual opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of a few noted alumni and thereby celebrate the potential of all UT Dallas alumni. Please buy tickets or join several friends together to buy a table so you can join in the festivities and be part of this important annual celebration.
This spring will be busy as we continue to increase participation, enrollment, and academic excellence at UT Dallas. Thank you for being a vital part of this university.
