Director's Corner

As this school year starts, our Alumni Relations team is taking on some big projects to enhance the alumni experience for all of us.

UT Dallas currently has almost 55,000 alumni, and our job in Alumni Relations is to develop and promote programs, services and benefits that engage all of those graduates. That's a big job, and your input is always appreciated because it helps us build a stronger program.

We have always had a lot of requests from alumni wanting to be more involved with the University, so the first thing you'll notice is that we're offering a greater variety of ways to be involved. We're developing a volunteer program that will offer meaningful opportunities, whether you're looking to volunteer for an hour or over the course of a semester. You'll see those opportunities posted on the alumni website a little later this fall, and I'll hope you'll be involved.

We're also adding more variety to the alumni events. In addition to the social and networking events we've always done, we're expanding to include more professional and collegiate athletic events, more educational offerings, and some career development opportunities. Look for Alumni Nights at the UT Dallas athletics games throughout the year, notices about upcoming lectures on campus, as well as a new networking event we're organizing with the Career Center.

Finally, keep your eyes out for the launch of the Loyalty Fund's 2008-2009 campaign. This past year has brought another historic increase in alumni donations to the university, and we're going to do even better this coming year with your help. Alumni support is a crucial component that influences how universities are perceived and ranked, so please consider supporting UT Dallas when you receive an email, letter or phone call from the Loyalty Fund.

The UT Dallas Alumni Relations program exists to engage alumni with each other and in support of the university, our alma mater. Each year the program gets stronger because of your thoughtful requests and suggestions. If there's a program, benefit or event that you want to see, let us know. I'm looking forward to a great school year and to connecting with many of you at upcoming alumni events!
