On June 25, alumni from throughout the San Diego region (some traveling from as far as Oceanside and Carlsbad!) gathered at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla to celebrate and reconnect with UT Dallas. Their host, President David E. Daniel, took the stage to provide an update about UT Dallas' steady climb to national research university status.

Daniel introduced guest speaker Clark Straw (MS ’75), who recounted tales from the seven years he spent at sea following a 30-year career in sales and marketing with Hewlett Packard. Straw’s boat, the Final Straw, sailed almost 10,000 miles, docking at Pacific Ocean ports from Mexico to New Zealand and beyond. Back on land, Straw recently strengthened his ties to UT Dallas by joining the Development Board, a leadership group of more than 50 alumni and friends who are committed to building support and financial backing for the University.

The “Hello Tour” has also stopped in Indianapolis, Houston, Austin, Pittsburgh and Taipei, Taiwan, with the next event scheduled for July 26 in Albuquerque.
