Ring Ceremony Celebrates Comet Pride
New graduate Shaheena Ramzan celebrates the occasion with her family.
After receiving his ring from President David E. Daniel at a past ceremony, alumnus Dan Whitsell returned to address the ring recipients.
In early December, more than 70 students and graduates received their UT Dallas rings at the fall ring ceremony, a young University tradition gaining traction with students as well as alumni.
Dan Whitsell BA’85, MA’92, MBA’02 spoke to the crowd, sharing the story of his UT Dallas ring—how it was purchased upon completion of his bachelor’s degree, lost after sending to the manufacturer to update the ring with degree details and finally replaced at the 2013 spring ceremony. He then reminded the students of the significance of their own rings, a representation of ties to the University.
Ring recipients took the opportunity to thank supporters of their college experiences and share a few thoughts about their respective journeys. The group then gathered on the mall for a ceremonial dunking of the rings in UT Dallas reflecting pools to immerse themselves symbolically in Comet pride.
All alumni are invited to participate in the next ring ceremony in May. Visit the Alumni Relations website to learn more about UT Dallas rings.
