Alumni Teachers Share UT Dallas with Students

Alumna Ashley Minor and her second-grade class do the Whoosh at the KIPP Explore Academy in Houston.

The Comets in the Classroom program helps participating educators—most of whom are alumni— share UT Dallas with the next generation of students. Through Comets in the Classroom, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations sends spirit items to alumni, teachers or friends of the University looking to introduce young people to UT Dallas.

Each year, more than 30 schools receive packages of UT Dallas posters, pennants, pens and pencils. Requests typically come from alumni teachers celebrating “college days” or from schools looking to introduce future high school graduates to the University.

Such was the case for Ashley Minor BS’11, a second-grade teacher at KIPP Explore Academy in Houston. “I was so excited to present the spirit items to my students and show them a little bit about my alma mater. When they think about where to go to college, I want their first choice to be UTD.”
