The ALEKS Assessment is an online placement exam that UT Dallas uses to determine what level of math our students are ready to take.  UT Dallas requires that all students take the assessment before they are allowed to enroll in a math course.

ALEKS is completely online, costs $40, and includes an initial assessment and four retests prior to the deadline.  Additionally, ALEKS provides self-paced review tutorials in case you need to brush up on a particular math concept.

Students who enter UTD with math college credit (i.e. credit by exam, duel credit, or transfer credit) do not have to take ALEKS.

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state mandate that requires students to be assessed in reading, writing and math skills prior to enrolling in college, and to be advised based on the results of that assessment.
