Ryan P. McMahan. directs the Future Immersive Virtual Environments (FIVE) Lab, which focuses on using immersive virtual reality (VR) technologies to promote effective learning and training. He was the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award for his research and educational activities pertaining to leveraging the virtualness of VR. He has authored numerous journal papers, conference papers, and other publications, including coauthoring the recent 3D User Interfaces: Theory and Practice, Second Edition book. Ryan has been awarded for Outstanding Faculty Teaching by the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at UT Dallas, and was the sole recipient of the 2016 Provost’s Award for Faculty Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring. He is currently an an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at The University of Texas at Dallas. Ryan holds a PhD in Computer Science & Applications from Virginia Tech in 2011.
