Phill Johnson created the Magic Shoppe as part of his masters thesis.
The goal of the Magic Shoppe is plot exposition and player training. The player is sent by their master to purchase their initial mage garb in order to begin training. The player must complete his/her character customization by selecting a garb, staff, and spell book.
Past this, the shoppe comes under siege when an inexperienced summoner’s ritual goes awry, releasing hordes of gargoyles into the shoppe. The player must escape through through the catacombs into the sewers and finally up to the streets outside.
