Cognitive Science is best described as an interdisciplinary field whose focus is upon the issue of understanding intelligent systems such as animals, people, societies, web search engines, computers, robots, and the many other intelligent biological and mechanical entities which co-exist in today's society.

Issues related to the understanding of intelligent systems arise in many different areas including: Psychology, Computer Science, Language, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, History, Neuroscience, Government, Sociology, Economics, or Business Administration.Accordingly, every Cognitive Science undergraduate must declare an area of specialization from which their core coursework will be chosen.

Thus, the Bachelor of Science Cognitive Science Undergraduate major provides a strong foundation for a very large number of careers.

  • Cognitive Science students interested in Medical, Education, and Clinical Psychology Careers should pursue the "Cognition and Neuroscience" specialization Area.
  • Cognitive Science students interested in Computer Science, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics careers should purse the "Intelligent Systems" specialization area. For example, the design of "smart video games" would be one possible application area associated with this specialization area.
  • Cognitive Science students interested in Computer Science careers should pursue the "Human Computer Interaction" Specialization area. For example, the design of "user friendly" web pages would be one application area associated with this specialization area.
  • All specialization areas would provide excellent preparation for Law School or Medical School.
