Volunteer Job Descriptions
Volunteers will interact with parents, students, and teachers. Volunteers should put their best foot
forward and be helpful, friendly, and overall good stewards of BEST Robotics and the University
of Texas at Dallas. Keep in mind that this is a championship event for a national program and
these students have worked very hard to get here.
A hospitality room is provided at the Curtis Culwell Center on Saturday of the
competition where meals, snacks, and beverages will be provided for event volunteers, judges
and corporate sponsors only. Due to budget constraints we cannot accommodate guests of
volunteers or judges. We thank you in advance for your willingness to volunteer to help with this
worthwhile program. We guarantee you'll have a blast!

Referees
The Robotics portion of the competition is similar to many sporting events in that it requires referees to oversee all head-to-head matches between robots. Additional referees will be needed to rotate periodically and give each other breaks throughout the day. Referees must be very familiar with the game rules, with preference being given to those who have served as referee for the current year’s game at a local hub. Rules for this year's challenge can be found at the BRI website, www.bestinc.org. 10 Needed.
Pit Crew
The Pit Crew works with the Pit Bosses to cover the following jobs:
-
Oversee the robot repair tables

Stage the teams prior to each match
"Police" the pit area of the floor to ensure that adults are not repairing broken machines
-
Help with set-up and break-down of the pit area
-
Help with compliance check-in of robots on Friday and/or Saturday morning prior to the
competition
The Pit is a very busy and important part of the competition. A well-organized and sufficiently

throughout the day. A training session will be required early in the week of the competition.18 Needed.

All participating teams must register (check-in) upon arrival at
the Curtis Culwell Center. In addition, the

the weekend's events. 12 Needed.
