Requirements

The MS in Biotechnology requires 36 semester hours, including a four course (12 semester hour) core

Core Courses for the MS in Biotechnology

• BIOL 5373 Proteomics
• BIOL 5381 Genomics
• BIOL 5384 Biotechnology Laboratory

And one of the following

• BIOL 5376 Applied Bioinformatics
• CS 6372 Biological Database Systems and Data Mining
• MATH 6341 Bioinformatics

Preparing for the core courses

Students may use a portion of the 36 semester hours to prepare for the core. Contact us to get advice on how to make the transition to the core. Well-prepared students may petition to substitute additional elective courses for core courses.

Beyond the core...

Students may select from a wide range of approved elective courses in areas such as:

• molecular and cell biology
• chemistry, mathematics
• science education
• engineering and computer science
• social sciences
• finance and management.

Students may also take research courses and complete an M.S. thesis. More than 36 semester hours may be required to complete this plan.
