Doctors on the Front Lines: Adjusting Patient Care in an Age of Changing Paradigms    

 

A think tank consultant, science advisor and renowned writer, Greg Bear has authored bestsellers Hull Zero Three (Orbit November 2010), City at the End of Time (Del Rey 2009), Mariposa (Perseus paperback November 2010), and the Halo: Forerunners Trilogy (Tor, 2011-2013). Bear has won the Nebula award for two novels: Darwin’s Radio and Moving Mars.      

 

Over the last thirty years, Bear has consulted with think tanks, corporations, and government agencies on matters ranging from the privatization of space to electronic publishing to biological security. He has also served as science advisor on a number of television shows, been interviewed by Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, and worked on the multi-author historical fantasy The Mongoliad., published by 47North. He’s married to Astrid Anderson Bear, and they are the parents of two young writers, Erik and Alexandra.      

 

What are the issues involved in keeping abreast of cutting-edge science and techniques in medicine and biology? How much can we expect doctors to adjust their practical approaches to patient care in light of new research? And how do we define new research? Bear’s talk will focus on getting to the core of the issues in question.
