Fujisan Kaen Daiko, a group of taiko drummers from Fujiyoshida, Japan, will visit North Texas for one performance on August 7. The group includes Machiko Kanda, who travels from Japan every year to help with our Mochitsuki New Year's Celebration.
The group was founded in 1985 to develop a new style of taiko music inspired by the beautiful nature of nearby Mount Fuji and its surroundings. There are about 30 members, including school students and adults. The trip to Dallas follows a Sister Cities celebration in Colorado Springs.
