You’re in luck as this year nerds and geeks will have a field day with panels (including a very special guest), cosplay, contests, game tournaments, artist alleys and more. Don’t miss the pre-day on October 10th from noon to 11p and the post-day 8pm screening of the Avengers at the Res

Avatar: Legend of Korra Marathon

We will show the entire first season of Avatar: Legend of Korra on the big screen! Remember: Be the leaf.

Fighting Video Game Tournament             

Compete against friends for prizes in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mortal Kombat. Tournament sign up from 5pm-6pm in CN Lobby video game area.

Main Event: Repo! The Genetic Opera

Live actors will act out the post-apocalyptic musical movie Repo! The Genetic Opera as the movie plays in the background. It’ll be a fun, interactive movie experience! Admission is free. Optional prop packs sold at the door for $4.

Bizarre Bazaar

Check out our Artist Alley, Art Gallery, comic book vendors, activity booths (includes anime jeopardy, geek speed dating, origami, etc.) and anime watching area. Bring your playing / trading cards and play against MEK fraternity officers. Street Fighter 4 / Marvel vs. Capcom 3 fighting video game tournament for prizes 1pm-5pm; tournament sign up 1pm-2pm in CN Lobby video game area.

Japanese Pop Culture with Dr. Watanabe 

Listen to Dr. Watanabe discuss contemporary Japanese popular culture and the “otaku” (maniac fan) phenomenon.

Batman’s Costume Through Time with Dr. Ingrao

Dr. Ingrao will discuss how the changes in Batman’s costume over the past 70 years reflect the movement from a hero based in noir culture to a more "young adult" friendly version to, most recently, a call for greater realism that returns to the darker origins of Batman.

Harry Potter with Dr. Towner

Dr. Towner plans to discuss the playful seriousness and serious play of JK Rowling's language in addition to the plots/characters of the Harry Potter novels.

Miyazaki Movies with Dr. Gossin & Dr. Hairston

Hayao Miyazaki is the most successful and popular anime director in
Japan. Dr. Gossin and Dr. Hairston will trace his history in the Japanese animation industry and discuss what makes his works, such as Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, so distinctive.

Representatives from Gearbox and other companies will speak about their industry and answer students’ questions.

Janet Varney, Korra’s voice actress from the cartoon Avatar: Legend of Korra, will answer questions and talk about her experience with Avatar.
