Center for Children welcomes , Raúl Rojas Ph.D., CCC-SLP, "Bilingualism and school-aged children: What we know and where we go from here".

Children learning English as a second language enter the school system facing a tall order: they are expected to learn and perform as well as their monolingual peers, and to do so in an unfamiliar language.  Unsurprisingly, many bilingual children exhibit academic difficulties and are over-represented in special education services.  This presentation will explore the phenomenon of bilingualism, including some of the latest research with bilingual children, and implications for the future will be discussed.

Dr. Raúl Rojas, Assistant Professor and Director of the Bilingual Language Laboratory, is a faculty member in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program within the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at UT Dallas, Callier Center for Communication Disorders.

The School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences and The Center for Children and Families invites you to the 2013 Spring Lecture Series.  The lectures are free and open to the public- no RSVP needed.  The talks will be held Friday mornings, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with a reception following.
