Retired four-star Admiral Patrick M. Walsh of Dallas will present the 2013 George W. Jalonick III and Dorothy Cockrell Jalonick Distinguished Memorial Lecture. Admiral Walsh retired in 2012 after a distinguished career that included consecutive assignments as one of the highest ranking officers in the U.S. Navy. He served as Vice Chief of Naval Operations and was Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, the largest fleet in the world.
The event is sold out.
Since McDermott Library's annual Jalonick Lecture concerns aviation history, Walsh will focus on his service as a combat pilot and member of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron known as the Blue Angels. His discussion will include the squadron's transition in flying amazing in-close formations from the A-4F Skyhawk II to the F/A-18 Hornet A/B. He will talk about the air show environment, the handling qualities of the A-4 versus the F-18, and the challenges of transitioning from the A-4 to the F-18 without missing a full season.
The lecture will include a question and answer session and a reception. Visitors should park in Lots A and B. On the web please see www.utdallas.edu/maps. Signs will direct visitors to the Jonsson building.
