MFA Exhibit David E. Witherspoon
August 3-24, 2013
Opening Reception Saturday, August 3, 7-9 pm
Artist, David Witherspoon, tackles concerns over the industrialization and globalization of modern Western society which has drastically affected the psyche and existence of the individual and what it means to be unique. Using multiple mediums of photography, sculpture, video and painting he attempts to remind us that ever changing technology permits not merely objects, but ideas as well to be duplicated ad infinitum ad nauseam. This depersonalization of society is expressed through David's work, and it represents the subconscious mind's reaction to mass consumption. Andy Warhol wanted to be a machine. He proudly proclaimed he wanted everyone to be a machine. What will happen to a society when that wish finally comes to fruition, that is, if it hasn't already occurred?
