Malaysian Airlines flight 370 disappeared in the early hours of March 8 en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur with 239 people on board. A team of engineers at the British satellite company Inmarsat narrowed the search area for MH370 to a region of the southern Indian Ocean.
Dr. John Zweck, professor of mathematical sciences at UT Dallas, will give a public lecture April 4 to explain the mathematics that the Inmarsat engineering team is using to deduce the flight path of the plane. His presentation is geared toward undergraduates of all majors, and will include pictures, models and computer simulations to illustrate the math concepts involved.
