Cosmology differs from other branches of physics because we don’t get to manipulate the initial conditions or the environment of the universe to learn about its laws. The Cosmic Microwave Background is one of the early universe’s fossils from which much information has been extracted. Inflation and the ΛCDM model give a beautiful description of the Cosmic Microwave Background data. This talk will give a general introduction to inflation and ΛCDM and in the latter part explore how to embed it in a high energy physics context.
