Dr. Roger Malina (UT Dallas)
I will present the research areas currently being developed in the UTD ATEC ArtSciLab. Drawing on my background with astronomical data and NASA telescience, I will present some of the projects under way that involve developing new approaches for representing large data sets, including the use of data sonification and immersive systems. I will also discuss the work in ‘experimental publishing’ through my work with MIT Press as the Executive Editor of the Leonardo art-science publications. The way researchers document and present their work to their peers and the public are evolving rapidly; I will discuss the emerging ways that open access and grey literature impacting research publishing, including our experiments with the Creative Disturbance podcast platform and the ARTECA art science technology aggregator.
