(4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.) Location: Libra Room.

“Walk a Mile in My Shoes” is a performance poetry contest emphasizing the importance of empathy and diversity through works of poetry.  Winners of the contest will be awarded prizes that range from a $1000 dollars for 1st place, $700 dollars for 2nd place, and $300 dollars for 3rd place.

To participate in the poetry competition on March 5, 2015 you must attend three of four prior designated poetry workshops on the dates of February 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2015.

On March 5, 2015 you will perform/recite your poem before a live audience and a panel of judges who will rate your poem on a scale of 0 to 10 basing their calculations on content and performance/presentation.

In the tradition of poetry slams the use of any props or costumes are prohibited and all work must be the original work of the contestants.

Documentary exploring the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color---particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture.
