Do I need a doctor’s referral to come for a hearing test?
No, anyone may schedule an appointment with an audiologist. However, if you have insurance, your policy may require a referral from a physician in order to receive benefits.
I have a hearing test from my doctor. Do I have to have another one?
If you have a copy of a hearing test performed by an audiologist within the past six months, it will not be necessary for our audiologists to conduct additional tests, unless you feel your hearing has changed, or unless there are specific tests needed that were not conducted.
All of the testing performed at the Callier Center is performed under the supervision of a licensed audiologist.
Will I see a physician when I come for my hearing test?
The Callier Center does not see patients for medical treatment. Audiologists at the Callier Center often refer patients to medical doctors if the need arises.
How much does a hearing test cost?
The exact cost of a hearing evaluation varies depending upon the tests that are done and the age of the patient. In general, a comprehensive hearing evaluation will cost $150 to $225.
Will insurance cover the fees?
Sometimes insurance will cover all or part of your fees, depending upon the benefits of your particular policy. Check with your insurance carrier to find out.
Should I go to Callier Dallas or Callier Richardson?
Most of our services are available at both facilities. You are welcome to schedule an appointment at whichever location you prefer.
Can I get a copy of my hearing test to take home with me?
Yes, ask your audiologist and they will be happy to send a copy home with you.
My baby failed a hearing screening in the hospital. What should I do now?
If your baby failed a screening in the hospital and also failed the follow-up screening recommended by the hospital, then you may call us to schedule a diagnostic evaluation. Please do this as soon as possible.
My baby passed a hearing screening in the hospital, but he/she is not talking like I think he/she should. Do I need to have a hearing test for my baby?
If you have any concerns about your child’s hearing, please call an audiologist and discuss your concerns. You may talk with an audiologist by calling 214-905-3034. If no one is available, your call will be returned.
My child is too young for a hearing test. What should I do?
We can test children as soon as they are born. A child is never too young to get a hearing test.
How do you test young children?
Depending upon their age and development, young children may be tested using electrophysiological techniques or behavioral techniques.
What if my child has other handicaps?
Children with developmental delays may be more difficult to test than other children, but all children can be tested.
Do you provide new hearing aids?
The Callier Center provides new hearing aids through a variety of state and federal programs, as well as through private insurance and by private pay when no coverage is available.
Do your hearing aids have a warranty?
All hearing aids dispensed at the Callier Center have a warranty for repair.
If I buy hearing aids at Callier, do I have to pay for adjustments?
Adjustments are covered by the purchase of the hearing aid during the warranty period.
What if the hearing aid I buy at Callier doesn’t satisfy me?
All hearing aids sold at the Callier Center come with a 30 day return privilege. Your audiologist will work with you to adjust the aids so that you will get maximum benefit.
May I buy insurance on hearing aids?
The Callier Center can provide you with suggested vendors that write insurance policies that cover loss and damage beyond repair.
Do you provide used hearing aids?
Under special circumstances, used hearing aids are provided to patients. Please talk with an audiologist at the Callier Center (214-905-3034) to determine if this option is available.
We loan hearing aids to our patients when they are available and appropriate, such as when a patient’s hearing aids are being repaired.
We do not currently rent hearing aids.
What if I can’t afford a hearing aid?
If you need hearing aids, but cannot afford them, please talk to an audiologist. There may be special assistance programs for which you qualify.
Does insurance cover hearing aids?
Insurance sometimes covers hearing aids, or a portion of the cost of hearing aids. Please check with your insurance carrier to determine if you have this benefit.
Yes, we send all brands of hearing aids to repair facilities. Sometimes we can repair hearing aids in our office.
How long does it take to get a hearing aid back that has been sent to be repaired?
Hearing aids return from repair facilities at different speeds, though usually less than two weeks. Repair facilities will often expedite a repair for an added fee.
I have old hearing aids I would like to donate. Will you take them?
We are happy to accept used hearing aids. UT Dallas will give you a receipt for any donated hearing aid. Visit this page to learn more about donating used hearing aids.
Cerumen removal is a service we offer to patients for whom it can be done safely in our office when the presence of wax interferes with testing or with hearing aid use. We do not clean ears for cosmetic reasons.
If I have a problem with my hearing aid, do I need an appointment?
You need an appointment to see an audiologist. However, we have variable walk- in hours when a hearing aid technician can look at your aid and determine if it needs to be repaired. To determine available walk-in hours, call 214-905-3034.
I have a hearing aid but it doesn’t work for me. Can you help me?
If you have recently purchased a hearing aid but are having difficulty, we may see you for a second opinion. If you have hearing aids that cannot be returned to the original purchase facility, we are happy to adjust them for you. If you have previously worn hearing aids but have been frustrated by their performance, schedule an appointment with us for an evaluation.
