Children’s Group Therapy Programs

Our certified, licensed speech-language pathologists provide specialized individual and group therapy services for children of all ages with speech, language and feeding disorders. Family involvement is an integral part of our treatment and parents/caregivers are a critical member of our team.

We want to partner with you to provide expert diagnostic services and to develop a positive therapeutic plan to optimize your child’s progress.                                                  



Articulation and Motor Speech

Programs for children who have difficulty producing/articulating age appropriate sounds.

Speech Stars I 
A comprehensive therapy program for preschool children combining individual and group therapy to facilitate correct production of speech sounds.  It is designed to help increase speech intelligibility for children who are very difficult to understand and may have difficulty producing many different sounds. It is facilitated by a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist with support from graduate student clinicians.

Speech Stars II  
A comprehensive therapy program for preschool children combining individual and group therapy to facilitate correct production of speech sounds.  It is designed to help increase speech intelligibility for children who have just a few speech sounds in error. It is facilitated by a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist with support from graduate student clinicians.

Camp CARE (Children with Articulation and Resonance Errors)
An intensive therapeutic camp for children with craniofacial disorders. Certified, licensed speech-language pathologists and graduate student clinicians work with children individually and in small groups throughout each session. The therapeutic focus is to improve motor speech skills (oral-motor and articulation skills) as well as voice skills (pitch, loudness and resonance).

Stuttering

Programs for children who have difficulty with disruptions or dysfluencies in verbal speech.

Y.E.S.S. (Youth Experience Stuttering Support)
A support group for school-age children who stutter. The group is led by certified, licensed speech-language pathologists with the support of graduate student clinicians. Parents are asked to attend. Topic for December.

Specific goals of the group are to:

    • Help children who stutter learn more about stuttering, realize they are not alone, feel good about themselves and have fun.
    • Assist parents of children who stutter by providing education, emotional support and a sense of empowerment.
    • Facilitate communication between children who stutter and their parents as they face the challenge of stuttering.

Tricks for Talking
A therapeutic camp for school-age children who stutter. Tricks for Talking provides an opportunity for children to learn fluency enhancing strategies and practice them in fun activities that facilitate carryover into everyday life. Licensed speech-language pathologists, along with graduate student clinicians, provide a comprehensive speech therapy experience that combines individual and group therapy activities in a fun atmosphere to improve speech fluency that is tailored to each child’s individual needs.

In addition, children have the opportunity to interact with other children who stutter and practice newly acquired skills in social settings. Family education programming runs concurrently with therapy sessions.

Feeding Disorders

Programs for children who have difficulty with oral-motor and sensory skills needed for eating/drinking

STEPS (Supportive Treatment of Eating in PreschoolerS)
STEPS provides a small-group intervention program for preschoolers with moderate to severe motor-based feeding disorders and accompanying sensory-motor issues.

The program is designed to facilitate improved oral motor skills for feeding while providing hands-on training for parents. Strategies to support stability and function during feeding, as well as normal development of feeding skills, are taught. The group is led by a licensed speech-language pathologist with support from graduate student clinicians.

Delayed Language

Programs for children with difficulty understanding and producing verbal language.

PLDP (Preschool Language Development Program)
PLDP is a therapeutic program designed for children with speech and language impairments. It is run by a speech-language pathologist and four to six graduate student clinicians each semester, to maintain a ratio of two or three children for every one clinician. 

The program uses a classroom environment and developmentally appropriate activities within thematic units to address individual speech and language goals.  The goal of the program is to create a natural environment through which children can improve communication abilities with adults and same-age peers in order to prepare themselves to be successful in mainstream preschool or kindergarten classrooms.

Parents As Teachers
This is an educational program that teaches language facilitation skills for parents to use at home. It is comprised of both group and individualized sessions.

The group sessions help parents:

    • Learn information about child development with an emphasis on speech and language.
    • Learn to promote interaction and communication to establish a foundation for early conversations.
    • Learn general speech and language facilitation techniques.

 The individual sessions:

    • Provide videotaping and feedback of parent-child interactions.
    • Provide suggestions for developing communicative interactions between parents and children.
    • Provide referrals to additional services or agencies as needed.

    • Ages: Parents of children between the ages of 18 and 36 months

SKILL (Strategic Knowledge in Listening and Learning)
SKILL is a nine-week group program designed for school-age children who need help with listening and organizational skills to assist with school success.

The program focuses on:

    • Identifying key words and ideas for increased understanding.
    • Organizing time and belongings for increased efficiency.
    • Listening and following directions.
    • Self-advocacy skills.

    • Ages: 7-12 years
    • Days/Times:
      • Callier Dallas: Mondays from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
      • Callier Richardson: Tuesdays from 4 p.m.- 5 p.m.

SmILE (Small-group Intervention for Language Emergence)
This group program is designed to facilitate language development in young children. The curriculum is organized by content themes in preschool routines that are utilized to provide intensive language intervention and social skills development. The program is led by a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist with the support of graduate student clinicians.

    • Ages: 2-3 years

        • Callier Dallas: Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30 a.m - noon or Tuesdays and Thursdays
          8:30-10 a.m. or 10:15-11:45 a.m.
        • Callier Richardson: Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30-10 a.m., 10:15-11:45 a.m.

Kaleidescope
A summer camp for school-age children with language impairments.  The camp is designed to promote problem solving and peer interaction skills using team challenges, age-appropriate science experiments and center-based activities.  The camp is led by a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist and graduate student clinicians, maintaining a 4:1 student/adult ratio.
