Internships

Internships provide the opportunity for students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to practical work experiences related to their academic and/or career goals. The primary focus of internships is EDUCATIONAL in nature. The UT Dallas Career Center highly recommends that students register every internship experience either for academic credit or for a transcript notation.

At UT Dallas, the term “internship” is used to include cooperative education (co-ops), internships, and Curricular Practical Training (CPT). There are three partners in the internship experience: the student, the employer, and the university. This three-way partnership benefits students by providing real-world experiences that will serve to enhance both their educational and career pursuits. It also benefits the employers by allowing them to gain access to highly qualified student workers and to develop a resource for future permanent hires.

If you are ready to begin your internship search, please review the “Eligibility and Process” section of this website to get further information on the next steps. Remember, the Career Center staff is here to help you with this process. Good luck!

PLEASE NOTE: Engineering and Computer Science students — The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science coordinates the Industrial Practice Program (IPP) which handles all internships for these majors. Please see the Industrial Practice Program website for additional information.
