“Going to medical school means going to lecture and lab from 8am-5pm and then reading, reading, and more reading until he falls asleep for the night! We have a great first year class in the Class of 2014 here at UNTHSC-TCOM and I am honored to be at this school with such great fellow student doctors.”
"I am a commissioned officer (2nd lieutenant, a reservist while in school, then active duty in June 2014) in the Army Health Professions Scholarship Program so after graduation I will be serving my residency at an Army Medical Center, followed by 1 year of servicefor each year I have taken the scholarship. So as I will be on scholarship for 4 years, I owe the Army 4 years, but as of now I would like to make a career out of it".
Ramin stated that going to medical school means going to lecture and lab from 8am-5pm and then reading, reading, and more reading until he falls asleep for the night! In addition, he enjoys the respect of his fellow classmates. “We have a great first year class in the Class of 2014 here at UNTHSC-TCOM and I am honored to be at this school with such great fellow student doctors."
Because of his UT Dallas education Ramin believes he is ahead of the game, especially in the neuroscience and neuroanatomy spectrums. “At UT Dallas we had great value and quality in our programs which put me ahead of my peers from Texas A&M and UT Austin. ”
Ramin advises to “...apply again and never quit if medical or other health professional schools are your ultimate goal.” He did poorly on his first MCAT and application, but the following year he gave it one more chance and got the scores he needed to get in.
Ramin credits Mickey Choate, Associate Director, Career Development, with helping him to meet all his needs and goals. Ramin was able to internship at diverse places, which gave him the opportunity to experience several professional environments. He also encourages students to take advantage of the resume writing/critique services of the Career Center. “The resume editors are a great employment aid, they have seen plenty of resumes!” Also, “if you have the chance to take advantage of a mock interview, they are recorded, replayed with a career counselor, and were quite helpful.”
