A. Dean Sherry Named Director of the Advanced Imaging Research Center at U.T. Southwestern
A. Dean Sherry, Cecil and Ida Green Distinguished Chair in Systems Biology #1, professor of chemistry at UTD and professor of radiology at UT Southwestern, was named Director of the newly established Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) housed in the new 6-story Bill & Rita Clements building on the campus of UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSWMC). Sherry said the center “represents an extraordinary opportunity for investigators in North Texas and a milestone for research infrastructure in the Southwest.”
The first new equipment to be housed and operated in the AIRC will include a 3 Tesla human MR imaging system for functional brain imaging studies, a 7 Tesla human MR imaging system for advanced research in MR, and a high-field animal imaging/spectroscopy system.
The goal of AIRC is to develop strong collaborative research programs between basic scientists & engineers at UTD, UTA, and scientists and physicians at UTSWMC in the imaging sciences, with early emphasis on advanced magnetic resonance (MR) research topics including structural biology, small animal imaging and spectroscopy, human imaging and spectroscopy, and functional imaging of the human brain.
