All students, staff, faculty and affiliates who use University services.
Do I have to use all of the features of the Comet Card?
No. All of the features, other than the ID portion, are optional.
What documentation do I need to get a Comet Card?
You need a photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.). Students require proof of registration. Staff and Faculty require an authorization form from their department.
Is there a charge for the Comet Card?
Your first Comet Card will be issued at no cost. There is a $25.00 fee for a replacement.
Comet Cards are issued only at the Comet Center. The Comet Center is located in the second floor of the Student Union Building (north entrance).
What if my Comet Card is lost or stolen?
Report the loss immediately to the Comet Center (972-883-2495). If the Card is linked to a Wells Fargo account, please contact Wells Fargo Customer Service (1-800-869-3557) to report the loss.
What if I find my lost Comet Card?
Before you can use the card, you must come to the Comet Center to have it reactivated. Reactivation requests cannot be taken by phone. If a new Comet Card has been issued, turn in the recovered card to the Comet Center. It is no longer valid.
What happens to my UTDollars account if my card is lost or stolen?
When the loss is reported the card is deactivated. The unauthorized use of your UTDollars is prohibited at that time. The University or the Card Office is not responsible for any use of the account before the loss is reported. UTDollars balance is transferred when the card is replaced.
What if my Comet Card is damaged?
An assessment will be made by the Comet Card management to determine if a charge should be made for replacement. The UTDollars automatically transfers to the new card.
Where can I open a UTDollars account?
A UTDollars account can be opened at the Comet Center. Additions to the account may be made at the Comet Center or the Bursar (no minimum or maximum amount) by cash, check or charge (Visa, Master Card or Discover)
Is there a fee to open a UTDollars account?
No. There is no fee to open an account.
Can I withdraw cash from my UTDollars account?
No. The funds in your UTDollars account can only be used to pay for University services.
Can I close my UTDollars account and request a refund of the remaining balance?
A UTDollars account can only be closed when you are no longer affiliated with the University or if you have not used the account for twelve months or more. A written request or an Account Closing Form is required.
Is there a fee for closing a UTDollars account?
No, if no money is owed to the University, a refund for the remaining balance will be issued and sent to the address on record. We encourage cardholders to spend their remaining balances whenever possible.
What if there is a balance in my UTDollars account at the end of the semester?
A balance in the account at the end of a semester will carry over to the next semester. However, unused UTDollar balances for 12 consecutive months will be forfeited to the university.
Can a student deposit a check from another party to UTDollars?
Parents will frequently give a check to the student to be deposited into UTDollars. This practice is handled on a case-by-case basis, but is usually acceptable. Parents who would like to set up a regular addition to the student's account may contact the Comet Card office for options including faxed or scheduled deposits.
Where can I use my Comet Card with the banking option?
When your Comet Card is linked to a Wells Fargo College Checking account, you can use it to make PIN-debit purchases and for free access to cash at Wells Fargo ATMs nationwide. Transactions are deducted from your linked Wells Fargo College Checking account.
What do I need to open an account with Wells Fargo
If you choose to open a Wells Fargo checking account, you will need two forms of identification.
- Government issued identification card from the federal, state, tribal, local or foreign government. Examples include: Driver’s license, State issued ID card, passport, military ID
- Second identification from a recognized business, educational institution or government. Examples include: Student ID card, Social Security card, Resident Alien card, Matricula Consular card.
How can I get my financial aid faster?
You can receive your financial aid or other student refunds faster by signing up for direct deposit to your Wells Fargo College Checking account. Direct Deposit Request Forms are available in the Office of Financial Aid. The money will be sent electronically to your account - no more waiting in line to get your check or cash your check!
What if I already have an existing Wells Fargo checking account?
You can LINK your NEW Comet Card to your existing Wells Fargo Checking account by visiting any Wells Fargo branch in the Dallas-Ft Worth Metroplex area.
Where can I open a new Wells Fargo account?
Wells Fargo representatives will be on campus during orientations and the beginning of each semester. Or you can visit any of the convenient Wells Fargo locations in Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex including the ones closest to campus listed below.

How can I connect to the library's electronic resources?

How does a faculty or staff member acquire a Comet Card?
Simply fill out a Request for Faculty/Staff Card. Once a signature authority has okayed the form, confirm that you are in the HR System and drop by the Comet Center with a photo ID.
Will the Comet Card pay tuition?
Tuition and mandatory fees can not be paid by the Comet Card.
Can visitors to UTD obtain a Comet Card?
Information for affiliates is available on the University Access Authorization Form (DOC) and its accompanying Instructions (DOC).
How can Telecampus/Distance Learners students receive a Comet Card?
Contact the Comet Card Office at 972-883-4123 to request your ID. The Card Office will verify your status and provide you with specific instructiions.
