Barbara C. Waller, M.D.
Barbara C. Waller, M.D., works with the Health Professions Advising Center as a consultant. She serves on the Health Professions Advisory Committee and as a faculty interviewer for the Health Professions Evaluation process for medical and dental applicants. Dr. Waller also assists HPAC advisors in various other ways throughout the year including occasionally speaking to student organizations.
Dr. Waller is originally from Buffalo, New York. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Vassar College and her medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Waller did her clinical residency training in psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Indiana University Medical Center. While in Boston, she worked with students at the Boston University Mental Health Center and the University of Massachusetts Student Mental Health Center.
Dr. Waller has almost four decades of experience advising and counseling students at both the undergraduate and professional school levels. For more than twenty years she was on the faculty of UT Southwestern Medical School and served as the Director of Student Mental Health Services as well as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. She was intimately involved with the admissions process, curriculum, and various student issues. Dr. Waller’s husband, Dr. David Waller, is a pediatric psychiatrist and faculty member at UT Southwestern Medical School and attending physician at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. He also holds an adjunct professor appointment in the School of Brain and Behavioral Sciences at UT Dallas.
