Dr. Scott Wright

Scott Wright joined HPAC in 2006 as associate dean. He brings twenty years of higher education experience to UTD, including ten years as the director of admissions at UT Southwestern Medical School. Few health professions advisors in the nation are as familiar with the character of medical schools and the traits of successful pre-health students.

Dr. Wright holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of North Texas, master’s and bachelor’s degrees in history from the University of Texas at Arlington and has completed management training at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard. At UT Dallas he teaches American History, Pre-Health Professional Development, and Pre-Health Career Exploration. Dr. Wright is also an adjunct assistant professor of ethics at UT Southwestern Medical School.

Dr. Wright has been married to his wife, Becky, for twenty years and has three children: Morgan (age 17), Dorothy (age 14), and Marshall (age 8). He enjoys reading, music, racquetball, puttering in the yard, and college football.  He laments the fact that he is often ignored by his 10-year-old Yorkshire terrier, Durley.

Dr. Wright is an active member and on the board of directors of the Southeastern and Texas Associations for Advisors of the Health Professions and is Program Chair for the 2010 national meeting of the National Association for Advisors of the Health Professions.  He sponsors Alpha Epsilon Delta and the Post Baccalaureate Pre-Health Society and serves as the director of the UT Dallas Certificate in Biomedical Sciences Post Baccalaureate Program.
