Graduate Student Association

WHAT IS THE GSA?
The Graduate Student Association of the School of Arts and Humanities at UTD (GSA) is the interest group of our graduate students. Our purpose is to provide information about the program, the fields of study and career opportunities, to create opportunities for networking; and to act as liaison between the students and the administration. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gsaUTDallas/

As a graduate student in the School you are automatically a voting member of the GSA.

WHERE ARE WE?
Most of our meetings take place in the Graduate Student Lounge (JO 4.112 – ask Sherry or one of us for the code). There is a fridge, microwave, coffee maker as well as couches, tables, and a functioning PC with Internet access.

We also have a Yahoo group where we collect useful information, keep meeting minutes and through which we send out reminders of meetings, etc. Go to our website to join the group.

ADVOCACY
The GSA has representatives on administration committees, presents student concerns to the administration and seeks to inform students about official goings on such as changes in the program, TA hiring conditions, etc.

STUDENT – FACULTY MIXER
Once each semester we welcome new students and faculty with a party. We provide wine, beer, sodas, finger foods, conversation and general merriment.

DUELING DISCOURSES
A panel of faculty talks about their different approaches to a chosen topic.

STUDENT COLLOQUIA
Student presentations of scholarly and artistic projects.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Depending on demand and time and other variables we have had in the past and will have in the future activities such as:

  • Research Paper Award
  • Happy Hour at the Abbey (10% student discount)
