Raul Olmos completed his studies at la Escuela Popular de Bellas Artes, en el Conservatorio de las Rosas de Morelia and el Conservatorio Nacional de Musica in Mexico City. He attended master classes in Cuba, Spain and France with instructors like Leo Brouwer, Jose Luis Rodrigo, David Russel, Jorge Cardoso and others.

Raul has given recitals at important events for the Michoacan state and the Mexican Republic and has performed in countries such as Cuba, Italy, France, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Turkey, Cyprus, Hungary, Spain, Germany, the United States, the Czech Republic and Canada.

Raul has received the following prizes and recognitions:

  • 1985 National Guitar Prize in Paracho, Michoacan.
  • 1987 National Guitar…Prize of Guanajuato.
  • 1988 y 1990 …twice by the Government of the State of Michoacan and the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
  • 1998 Professional Merit Award from the Morelia University Rotary
  • 1999 Recognized by the Hungarian Embassy in Mexico for promoting the cultural interchange between the two countries.
  • 2000 His album “Jose Tocaven Lavin” received the Musical Merit Award from the newspaper La Voz de Michoacan

He has recorded 2 CDs in Germany: Paisaje Mexicano and Sonoridades, supported by the Michoacan Government.

He is the founder and General Coordinator of the International Festival of Guitar of Morelia.
