More than 100 students turned out for the chance to fly remote-control helicopters around the ECS North atrium Feb. 19 as part of National Engineers Week. Mechanical engineering students ran the event, which included three short lectures related to flight and robotics: Jonsson School Dean Mark Spong spoke about control theory and autonomous control of robotic devices, EE professor Matthew Goeckner talked about helicopters, wings and the speed of sound, and CS associate professor S. Venkatesan (Venky) discussed real-time software and its role in aircraft and spacecraft.
