RossStephanie Ross
B.S., Electrical Engineering

Next step
I am backpacking through Europe for five weeks this summer, and as soon as I get back to Dallas I will start my career at Raytheon as a systems engineer.

Educational highlights
My favorite professor at the Jonsson School was Dr. Lehmann because he not only taught the subject matter with enthusiasm and clarity, he also gave us great advice stemming from the daily character traits we discussed. You can see how much he loves his job and that he cares about his students and their future success. He also was extremely understanding and accommodating when I had to miss class because of traveling or playing games for the UTD women’s soccer team.

The most important thing I learned at the Jonsson School was to take advantage of the knowledge of those around you and never be afraid to ask for help or advice. The faculty consists of extremely knowledgeable and talented professors who are more than willing to fill our minds with new ideas and information that will help us be successful engineers.

Internship
My summer internship at Maxim Integrated Products was extremely helpful in gaining hands-on experience dealing with many different types of circuits. I was a lab intern who was required to test and troubleshoot circuit boards before shipping them off to customers. This was an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insight into what working in industry is really like.

Long-term plans
I plan on going back to school to get my master’s degree in wherever my career begins to take me. I hope to pursue a project-management role in the long run. I know things will probably take me down different paths from what I originally planned, but no matter what I hope to become a well-established and confident engineer.

Final thoughts
UT Dallas has been the perfect place for me to grow as an engineer as well as a leader. Because of its youth and ever-changing environment, UT Dallas uniquely offers a plethora of opportunities to get involved, voice your ideas and leave a lasting legacy on campus. I encourage everyone to get on campus, get involved, go to sports games with friends, spread school spirit and take pride in being a part of this up-and-coming university. GO COMETS!
