Stephen C. Smith
B.S., Electrical Engineering
Next step
I’m going to work at L-3 Communications Integrated Systems while I also pursue my master’s.
Educational highlights
My favorite class was the Communications Systems Lab. I thought it was a great chance to apply theory to practice. I really enjoyed it. My favorite instructors were Dr. Lehmann and Dr. Overzet. I really liked the passion and practicality they brought to their classes. Their combination of enthusiasm and course content made their classes very enjoyable experiences.
I also learned this: That you have to believe that you can accomplish whatever you have set your mind to. If you don’t believe in your mission, you can’t have success.
Internships
I had two great internships. I was exposed to both the administrative and technical tasks involved in engineering. I was able to work on research for MEMs switch applications, to design PCBs and to do a lot of other cool stuff.
Long-term plans
I want to develop and improve technologies that contribute to a better quality of life for everyone. Research and development is where I would really like to ultimately be.
Final thoughts
I have worked and gone to school for so long that it seems like I’m on vacation when I only have to do one of them. Also I’m truly grateful for the support I’ve received from family, friends and colleagues while pursuing my degree.
