Scantron Scanning and Scoring Services
The Learning Resources Center (LRC) provides scanning and scoring services for a fee. LRC scans and scores scantron examination forms F-1712-PAR-L, F-1712-ERI-L, F-288-ERI-L, 882-E, 886-E, Form No. 22000, or X-101864-ERI-L. These are available at the University of Texas at Dallas Campus Bookstore.
LRC uses two different scanning machines.
Froms F-1712-PAR-L, F-1712-ERI-L, and F-288-ERI-L are scanned by a machine which works in conjunction with ParScore software. This software can create rosters with the students' grades and export them into an Excel or text file. It can export student responses to exam questions, create test item analysis reports and test reports for each individual student. Instructors or their designates can request these items and pick them up along with the graded scantrons. LRC can also transfer rosters or student responses to instructors or designates via e-mail or diskette (note that full social security numbers will not be e-mailed).
Forms 882-E, 886-E, No. 22000, and X-101864-ERI-L are scanned by a stand alone machine not connected to any software. The machine will mark incorrect responses, indicate the correct answer choice to incorrect responses, and print the total number or percent of correct responses ON THE SCANTRON. LRC will return ONLY the graded scantrons. NO additional services like student roster creation or data transfers are available.
The fees are:
- $0.10 per scantron
- $20.00 per hour of operating time (one hour minimum)
And if requested for forms F-1712-PAR-L, F-1712-ERI-L, and F-288-ERI-L:

- $0.10 per student
- Test Item Analysis Report. This includes statistics for questions.

How to get your scantrons scored
- Make sure students complete scantrons correctly.
Forms F-1712-PAR-L, F-1712-ERI-L, and F-288-ERI-L consist of the following fields:- ID Number - This is a REQUIRED field. The ID number is typically a student's social security number, but it doesn't have to be. Whatever the ID number, make sure that the ID's are unique and have uniform length. All ID's must be the SAME LENGTH (1-10 digits long). It does not matter whether the ID number is flush-right or flush-left, but do not "pad" ID numbers by bubbling in zeros, do not use dashes, and do not skip spaces between numbers.
- Phone Number - Optional.
- Last Name, First Name, M.I. - Write and bubble in the Last Name first, skip a space, write and bubble in the First Name next, skip a space and finally write and bubble in the Middle Initial, if any.
- Code - Not required.
- Test Form - If you are giving more than one version of an exam, be sure to designate each version as A, B, C, or D in the Test Form field of the scantron by bubbling in the corresponding letter. If you do not designate a test version, it is assumed that there is only one version of the test.
- Exam Number - Optional; if you want two or more different exams graded, please complete this field.
- Please include an answer key (unless you're interested in student responses only, not in a grade or score). The answer key must be one of the above acceptable scantrons bubbled in with the correct responses to the exam questions. Also, don't forget to specify the exam version (A, B, C, or D) if necessary.
Scantron forms 882-E, 886-E, No. 22000, and X-101864-ERI-L do not require ID's or student names to be bubbled in. Indicate the version of the exam if necessary. An answer key is required.
- Obtain an Intra/Inter-Departmental Transfer (IDT) form available at http://www.utdallas.edu/ir/tcs/eforms/IDT.doc. For instructions see http://www.utdallas.edu/ir/tcs/eforms/IDT_instruct.pdf. The IDT must be signed by the Dean or his designate, usually an administrative assistant. This form is required to charge your department for scanning service.
