Math Placement

Math placement testing is offered through the Learning Resource Center at UTD.

All students who intend to take Pre-Calculus, Applied Calculus, or Calculus I must qualify for admission to the class based on their performance on the SAT II Math tests, AP Calculus AB/BC tests, or a completed dual-credit math course with a final grade. On the second day of Freshman Orientation, the Learning Resource Center will administer both the SAT II IC and IIC mathematics tests. Students wishing to enter pre-calculus must attain a score of 460 on the SAT II IC test. To enter applied calculus, a student must score at least a 480 on the SAT II IC. To enter applied calculus, a student must score at least 480 on the SAT II IC. For calculus I admission, students must score at least 710 on the SAT II IC test or 630 on the IIC test.

NOTE: Calculators are NOT provided for the math placement test. You must supply your own calculator. A Graphing or Scientific calculator is recommended. It may also have a "check-book" type hinge with mathematical formulas printed on the inside cover.

The following are NOT permitted:

  • Powerbooks and Portable/handheld computers
  • Electronic writing pads or Pen-input/Stylus-driven devices (Palm, PDAs, Casio Classpad 3000)
  • Pocket organizers
  • QWERTY keyboard models (TI-92 Plus, VOyage 200) Models with paper tapes
  • Models that talk or make noise
  • Cell phone calculators

You must also bring a government-issued photo I.D. to the test and two number two pencils.

The testing fee is $35.00. Pre-registration is required. NO REFUNDS!
