Math Placement
Math placement testing is offered through the Office of Student Success and Assessment (OSSA) at UT Dallas.
All students who intend to take Pre-Calculus, Applied Calculus, or Calculus I must qualify for admission to the class based on their performance on the SAT II Math tests, AP Calculus AB/BC tests, or a completed dual-credit math course with a final grade. On the second day of Freshman Orientation, the OSSA will administer both the SAT II IC and IIC mathematics tests. From Fall Semester 2009 forward, students wishing to enter pre-calculus must attain a score of 550 on the SAT II IC test. To enter applied calculus, a student must score at least a 480 on the SAT II IC. For calculus I admission, students must score at least 710 on the SAT II IC test or 630 on the IIC test. Students should consult with an academic advisor for more information.
Important information for all Math Placement test takers: Calculators are NOT provided for the test. Students must supply their own calculator. Graphing or Scientific calculators are recommended and may include a "check-book" type hinge with mathematical formulas printed on the inside cover.
The following are NOT permitted:
- Laptop or portable/handheld computers
- Personal digital assistants (PDAs) of any type
- Pocket organizers
- QWERTY keyboard models (e.g. TI-92 Plus, Voyage 200) with paper tapes

Students must bring a government-issued photo I.D. to the test and two number two pencils.
The testing fee is $35.00. Pre-registration is required and there are no refunds.
