General Information & Introduction

The Eric Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science does not offer minors at this time.

Minors

Some academic units designate a set of classes that constitute a minor in that academic unit. The requirements of the minor are set by the faculty of the academic unit offering the minor, not by the academic unit of the student's major field of study. When an academic unit offers a minor in a field of study, it is open to all students in the university regardless of school of origin. Students who take a minor will be expected to meet the normal prerequisites in courses making up the minor. Minors consist of a minimum of 18 credit hours, of which at least 12 must be upper-division hours, although individual academic units may require more hours at their sole discretion. No credit hours may be used to satisfy both the major and minor requirements; however, free elective hours or major preparatory classes may be used to satisfy the minor. At least one-third of the hours for a minor must be taken at U.T. Dallas. Students enrolled as of Fall, 1999, who are pursuing majors under prior catalogs may incorporate minors in their degree plans. Students should consult with an advisor in their major field of study as they select and plan minors.

Who Can Declare a Minor

Minors are open to all students in the university regardless of school of origin.

Students enrolled as of Fall 1999 who are pursuing majors under prior catalogs may incorporate minors in their degree plans.

Advising for Minors

Students should consult with an advisor in their major field of study as they select and plan minors.

Residency Requirement

At least one-third of the hours for a minor must be taken at U.T. Dallas.  Students should also keep in mind that at least 24 of their last 30 hours for their degree must be taken at UTD.

Declaring a Minor

Students wishing to declare a minor should complete a Change of Major/Declaration of Minor form in their advisor's office. After consultation between the student and advisor, the advisor will forward the form along with all required signatures to the Office of Student Records where it will be processed. The Change of Major/Declaration of Minor form should be filed in the Office of Student Records prior to the close of business on the first class day of the semester. There will be no exceptions.

Certifying a Minor

Minors are certified by the student's advisor in his/her major. Students must indicate their minor on the graduation application by the appropriate deadlines. The advisor will certify the minor and forward a list of classes being used to help satisfy the requirements for the minor to the Office of Student Records in the semester of the student's graduation.
