ADD/ADHD
Students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are encouraged to register with Disability Services providing they have documentation from qualified professionals such as psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, and relevantly trained medical doctors. As with other disabilities, documentation of the disability must meet basic requirements. This includes the requirements that the documents be current and comprehensive. In most cases, to be current testing must have occurred within the last three years. To be comprehensive, the documentation must include a statement of the presenting problem, relevant testing information, the identification of the specific DSM-IV criteria, a specific diagnosis, and an interpretive summary that identifies the specific impairments or limitations that are manifested and why specific accommodation are needed.
In evaluating documentation of ADHD, UT Dallas adheres to the standards established by ETS please visit the ETS website to view the complete guidelines for ADHD accommodations.
UT Dallas is aware of the potential cost to students with ADD/ADHD when documentation supporting the need for accommodations is dated. Following the standards established by ETS, UT Dallas no longer requires a complete diagnostic reevaluation for basic accommodations such as extra time or additional rest breaks. Please visit the ETS website to view the Policy Regarding ADD/ADHD Documentation Shelf Life to which we adhere.
