Learning Disabilities
Students with Learning Disabilities (LD) are encouraged to register with Disability Services. To be eligible for services, students must provide current and comprehensive documentation from a qualified professional that provides evidence of their disability. Qualified professionals can include clinical or educational psychologists, neuropsychologists, learning disabilities specialists, and relevantly trained medical doctors. For adults, testing must have occurred within the past five years. Testing also must provide a comprehensive assessment of the student that relies upon multiple measures including overall aptitude, academic achievement, and information processing. Documentation must include a specific diagnosis of a learning disability, the resulting impairments or limitations, and a rationale for each recommended accommodation.
In evaluating documentation of Learning Disabilities, UT Dallas adheres to the standards established by ETS. Please visit the ETS website to view the complete guidelines for Learning Disabilities accommodations.
UT Dallas is aware of the potential cost to students with Learning Disabilities when documentation supporting the need for accommodations is dated. Following the standards established by ETS, UT Dallas no longer requires a complete diagnostic reevaluation for basic accommodations such as extra time or additional rest breaks. Please visit the ETS website to view the Policy Regarding ADD/ADHD Documentation Shelf Life to which we adhere.
