Disability Services

Testing Facilities

Disability Services currently has four testing rooms located in the Student Union, suite number 1.610. (To view a map of the campus click here). Each testing room is equipped with a computer and study cubicle, and comfortably allows two students to take an exam simultaneously. Two of our computers are equipped with JAWS (screen reading software) that enables students with a vision impairment to use our computers for alternative testing. Disability Services also has available Dragon Naturally Speaking, which is a voice recognition program that allows students to create and edit Windows based programs. Along with this voice recognition software we have MathTalk, a voice recognition software program that enables users to 'voice' mathematical symbols and equations. Finally, Disability Services has two CCTV's that are available for students to use for alternative testing.

Although most of the equipment we provide is technologically advanced, we also keep on hand several trusted devices to assist in simpler tasks. For instance, we have several calculators that students may use if they forget their own and we also have a 'talking' scientific calculator for students with a visual disability. To ensure a quiet and peaceful environment Disability Services strategically employs sound screens throughout the office suite to filter undesired sounds.
