The Galerstein Women's Center and the Department of Community Engagement co-host Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day each spring semester during National Engineers Week.

This program targets Dallas ISD ninth grade female students from the Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School (IRYWLS) in Dallas ISD to encourage them to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. The girls participate in an on-campus day of hands-on activities, tour research labs, meet UT Dallas students, and interact with female STEM professionals from Texas Instruments. In addition, students at the IRYWLS have the opportunity to participate in the Young WISE Investigators Program to compete for a scholarship to UT Dallas. The students must complete a year-long science or engineering project while receiving support from a circle of mentors which includes UT Dallas students and faculty, and women in industry.

Female high school students attend the program each year to learn more about pursuing a career in engineering. The program is sponsored in cooperation with the Erik Jonnson School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Texas Instruments Women's Initiatives.
