President's Volunteer Service Awards

An initiative of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation

UT Dallas Service and Civic Participation

Former UT System Chancellor Mark Yudof serves on the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. As a result, the UT System has joined with the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to bring the President's Volunteer Service Awards program to UT Dallas and other UT System institutions. The Department of Community Engagement coordinates the University's participation in the President's Volunteer Service Awards.

The President's Volunteer Service Award

In January of 2003, by Executive Order, President George W. Bush announced the formation of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. The Council was established to recognize the important contributions Americans of all ages are making within their communities through service and civic engagement.

The President's Volunteer Service Awards have been developed to thank and honor Americans who engage in volunteer service and, in doing so, inspire others to volunteer their time and energy. Any individual, family or group can receive the President's recognition for annual commitments to volunteer service. Awards are based on length of service. Individuals who serve a minimum of 100 hours in a 1-year period are eligible to receive awards.

Eligible participants will be invited to attend the annual ceremony that takes place in February.

All Faculty, Staff and Students are Encouraged to Participate

Currently many individuals serve in regular volunteer capacities. We want to recognize your commitment and outstanding service to the community. We encourage everyone to become involved with charitable, service and civic organizations. To earn an award, individuals, families and groups are encouraged to record their volunteer activities served by clicking on the UT Dallas logo at www.presidentialserviceawards.gov/s/ut. The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation provides a simple web-based method for individuals to record and measure ongoing volunteer efforts.
