Rosie M. Peterson, B.S., PAHM
Director, Institutional Diversity Initiatives

Rosie Peterson joined the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement as the director of Institutional Diversity Initiatives in May 2008. Ms. Peterson started at UT Dallas in 2004, after nearly 22 years of professional experience in serving individuals with special needs or in medically under served areas. For the past three years she worked as the assistant director of the Sickle Cell Research Center. Over her career, she has written grant proposals individually and collaborative to fund over four million dollars in project activities related to sickle cell disease and organizational capacity building.

In her new role, she has the responsibility in the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement to seek out, participate in and encourage grant writing and fund development; development of diversity communication projects, including a web site and newsletter; and strategies to develop and implement a diversity scorecard. Additionally, she will serve as a point of contact in reaching out to the African-American community on behalf of UTD. Ms. Peterson will also assist in the development of diversity training and awareness seminars for the faculty and staff.

Ms. Peterson has received numerous recognitions and awards acknowledging her professional and volunteer work. She received a bachelor's of science degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and is certified as a managed-care professional by the Professional Academy of Health care Management.

Mission Statement:

The Department of Institutional Diversity Initiatives (DIDI) is chartered with creating the strategies to enhance communication on diversity related topics within UT Dallas Community. In collaboration with Human Resources we aim to increase Diversity awareness by offering ongoing Diversity Training.  Our Office supports the development of new programs through identification of external funding to specifically address the unique issues and challenges affecting the under-represented stakeholders.

Focus

  • Develop the framework to highlight major institutional diversity achievements and concerns at UTD
  • To identify funding from external sources to support  new diversity program initiatives  and projects to increase the enrollment of underrepresented students at UTD
  • To improve public perception of UTD and its institutional diversity initiatives
  • To provide a forum to celebrate diversity achievements throughout UTD
  • To provide a training program for departments and units to identify diversity initiatives that they would implement by themselves and in collaboration with internal and/or external stakeholders
