The Diversity Awards recognizes the efforts and contributions of students, student organizations, staff, faculty and community members in advancing the UT Dallas commitment to embrace, enhance, and celebrate diversity at all levels of the University and our community. The Diversity Awards ceremony is the culmination of ODCE's many programs and initiatives throughout the year. This year, the 2015 Diversity Awards Ceremony celebrated its sixth anniversary where it brought together 300 guests in the UT Dallas Alexander Clark Center.
Diversity Lecture Series
The Department of Institutional Diversity Initiatives (DIDI) in collaboration with the Committee for Diversity and Equity, the Office of Human Resources Management, the Galerstein Women's Center, and the Multicultural Center host a series of diversity lectures and seminars. Such events are made available at least once a semester. The focus of the lecture series is to provide diversity information opportunities for faculty, students and staff. In addition, the series includes at least one major public lecture that presents the work of a prominent official, educator, researcher, author or artist whose efforts have had a significant impact upon diversity and/or equity.
Disability Employment Awareness Seminar
The Office of Diversity and Community Engagement, in partnership with the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance and our corporate partner Raytheon, will address the training needs and diversity challenges of college students with disabilities transitioning to the workforce. UT Dallas faculty, staff, students, caregivers and corporate community are invited to attend the Disability Employment Awareness Seminar. This seminar will present a number of promising approaches that are available to support student preparation for workplace demands of our global economy. To maximize the effectiveness of these approaches, special attention will focus on increasing the rigor, relevance and engagement as it relates to students who have traditionally faced barriers to successful workforce transitions. Our goal is to broaden awareness for affected students, as well as corporate and educational entities alike to create a strong partnership between faculty, staff, students and the corporate community in the North Dallas area.
The Office of Diversity and Community Engagement in partnership with the Office of Student AccessAbility, the Office of Human Resources and Procurement Management are collaborating to address the educational needs and diversity challenges of the community with disabilities. Professionals from the community, faculty, staff, students and caregivers are invited to attend UT Dallas' first AccessAbility Summit.
The event encompassed accessibility standards in Texas and at UT Dallas and includes a panel discussion, an overview of state accessibility laws and an update on the laws that require federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities.
