Academic Fresh Start
An applicant for admission who is a Texas resident may seek to enter
UT Dallas pursuant to the "academic fresh start" statute, Texas
Education Code, 51.931. If the applicant informs the Office of Admission
and Enrollment Services in writing of the election, UT Dallas will not consider
academic course credits or grades earned by the applicant 10 or more
years prior to the starting date of the semester in which the applicant
seeks to enroll. An applicant who makes the election to apply under
this statute will not receive any course credit for courses taken
10 or more years prior to enrollment. An applicant for graduate admission
who has earned a baccalaureate degree under the "academic fresh start"
statute, Texas Education Code, 51.931 will only be evaluated on the
grade point average of the course work completed for that baccalaureate
degree and the other criteria stated in the graduate catalog.
Applicants Concurrently Enrolled in High School
UT Dallas will consider the co-enrollment
of highly-qualified high school students in specific UT Dallas courses on
an individual basis. Co-enrollment decisions will be made based on
the academic credentials of the applicant, the scholastic rigor of
the requested classes, the course prerequisites, and the demand for
the class on the part of ongoing UT Dallas students.
To request co-enrollment, a prospective student must complete an
application for admission and submit a copy of his/her high school
transcript and all standardized test results, and have passed all portions
of, or be exempt from, the THEA
test. In addition, a letter from the student's high school counselor must accompany
the application and should endorse
the student's enrollment in a particular course(s). The counselor
must also verify that the requested course(s) represent
instruction unavailable and/or advanced beyond those offered at the
student's high school. See first-time freshman admission
and
Application Guidelines for more information.
If admitted, the University will stipulate the course(s)
for which the student may enroll. Co-enrolled students will be permitted
to enroll in no more than seven credit hours per semester at UT Dallas.
Upon acceptance, co-enrolled students must petition the Office of Undergraduate Education
each semester to request admission to specific courses for that semester.
A student will receive UT Dallas credit for such course(s). Co-enrolled
students must continue to make satisfactory progress toward their
high school graduation. A student who drops out of high school must
also drop co-enrolled courses at UT Dallas. Co-enrolled students will be
subject to the usual catalog conditions for good academic standing, and the Office of Undergraduate Education will advise co-enrolled students.
Applicants for Second Baccalaureate Degree
A student who has graduated from UT Dallas, or any other college
or university, with an undergraduate degree may only enter another undergraduate
program at UT Dallas with the approval of the associate dean
of the school in which the subsequent degree is sought.
Former Students
Students who have attended another college or university since they
were last enrolled at UT Dallas must submit official transcripts
of all subsequent coursework.
Leave of Absence
Students who formally request and are granted a leave of absence
will be exempted from readmission requirements. A request for
a leave of absence must be made in advance. Upon return to UT Dallas, a transcript from all institutions attended after leaving
UT Dallas must be provided to the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services,
including attendance at another university during a summer session.
Non-Degree-Seeking Students
A non-degree-seeking student is an undergraduate who does not intend to seek
a degree at UT Dallas, but who wishes to take courses for credit.
Up to 15 hours of such course work credit may be transferred to any
degree program at the University. Acceptance of any of these hours
is at the discretion of the master of the college into which the student
wishes to be accepted.
Non-degree-seeking students must apply using the non-degree-seeking admission application and meet all first-time freshman admission requirements. International students must be enrolled
in a degree program, and therefore may not enroll as non-degree-seeking students. Exceptions may be made for the summer session for those students enrolled
in a degree-seeking program elsewhere.
In order to continue enrollment beyond one semester, non-degree-seeking students will be bound by the same scholastic standards that apply to regularly enrolled degree-seeking students.
