Academic Fresh Start
An applicant for admission who is a Texas resident may seek to enter
this institution pursuant to the "academic fresh start" statute, Texas
Education Code, 51.931. If the applicant informs the Office of Admissions
and Records in writing of the election, the institution will not consider
academic course credits or grades earned by the applicant 10 or more
years prior to the starting date of the semester in which the applicant
seeks to enroll. An applicant who makes the election to apply under
this statute will not receive any course credit for courses taken
10 or more years prior to enrollment. An applicant for graduate admissions,
who has earned a baccalaureate degree under the "academic fresh start"
statute, Texas Education Code, 51.931, will be evaluated on only the
grade point average of the course work completed for that baccalaureate
degree and the other criteria stated in the graduate catalog.
Applicants Concurrently Enrolled in High
School
The Dean of Undergraduate Studies will consider the co-enrollment
of highly qualified high school students in specific UT Dallas courses on
an individual basis. Permission for enrollment in particular courses
will be at the discretion of the Undergraduate Dean in consultation
with the course instructor and the associate dean of the school offering
the desired course. Co-enrollment decisions will be made based on
the academic credentials of the applicant, the scholastic rigor of
the requested classes, the course prerequisites, and the demand for
the class on the part of ongoing UT Dallas students. Only the Dean of Undergraduate
Studies may admit a co-enrolled student to the university.
To request co-enrollment, a prospective student must complete an
application for admission and submit a copy of his/her high school
transcript; all standardized test results; and have passed all portions
of, or be exempt from, the THEA
test. In addition, a letter must accompany
the application from the student's high school counselor endorsing
the student's enrollment in a particular course(s). The counselor
must also assure the university that the requested courses represent
instruction unavailable and/or advanced beyond that offered at the
student's high school. See First-Time Freshman Admissions
and
Application Guidelines.
If admitted, the letter of admission will stipulate the course(s)
for which the student may enroll. Co-enrolled students will be permitted
to enroll in not more than seven credit hours per semester at UT Dallas.
Co-enrolled students must petition the Office of Undergraduate Studies
each semester to request admission to specific courses for that semester.
A student will receive UT Dallas credit for such course(s). Co-enrolled
students must continue to make satisfactory progress toward their
high school graduation. A student who drops out of high school must
also drop co-enrolled courses at UT Dallas. Co-enrolled students will be
subject to the usual catalog conditions for good academic standing.
The Office of Undergraduate Studies will advise them. Along with the
letter of admission to the student, a letter is sent to the high school
counselor informing the counselor of the student's admission to UT Dallas.
Applicants for Second Baccalaureate Degree
A student who has graduated from UT Dallas or any other college
or university with an undergraduate degree may enter another undergraduate
program at UT Dallas only with the approval of the associate dean
of the school housing the degree sought.
Former Students
Students who have attended another college or university since they
were last enrolled at UT Dallas must submit official transcripts
of all such work upon their return to UT Dallas.
Leave of Absence
Students who formally request and are granted a leave of absence
will be exempted from the readmission requirements. A request for
a leave of absence must be made to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies
in advance. A transcript from all institutions attended after leaving
UT Dallas must be sent to the Director of Admissions and Records,
including any attendance at another university during a summer session.
Non-Degree Students
A non-degree student is an undergraduate who does not intend to seek
a degree at UT Dallas, but who wishes to take courses for credit.
Up to 15 hours of such course work credit may be transferred to any
degree program at the university; acceptance of any of these hours
is at the discretion of the master of the college into which the student
wishes to be accepted.
Non-degree students must meet all First-Time Freshman
Admissions requirements. International students must be enrolled
in a degree program, and therefore may not enroll as non-degree students;
exceptions may be made for the summer session for those students enrolled
in a degree program elsewhere.
In order to continue enrollment beyond one semester, non-degree students
will be bound by the same scholastic standards as apply to regularly
enrolled degree-seeking students. A non-degree student whose work
is unsatisfactory and who has been suspended from the university for
academic reasons may not re-enroll without permission of the Dean
of Undergraduate Studies.
Transient Students
Students pursuing undergraduate degrees at colleges and universities
other than The University of Texas at Dallas and who desire to transfer
credit hours taken at UT Dallas to the degree-granting institution
should apply for admission as Non-Degree Students, and should be in good standing and enrolled or attended the most recent long term. While UT Dallas credits are generally transferable to other institutions, the
student is urged to seek prior approval of course work to be completed
at UT Dallas from the institution to which it is to be transferred.
