Steps after Admission for Transfer Students

All Transfer Students

This site contains everything you need to know to take you from the moment you are admitted to the first day of class. Consult the Campus Map for building locations.

• Notify us of your intent to enroll.
• Apply for financial aid.
• Submit proof of vaccination against bacterial meningitis.
• Apply for on-campus housing.
• Attend transfer orientation.
• Receive course credit from placement tests such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP), if eligible.
• See a list of special programs, such as the Collegium V honors program and Rhet 1101.
• Decide which courses to take by viewing the course lookup.
• Register for classes.
• Pay for classes.
• Get a parking decal using the parking permits webstore.
• Get a Comet Card student ID card.
• Create a NetID and personalized e-mail address.
• Consult the Campus Map for building locations on campus.
• Read the New Student A to Z Guide.
• Get involved in UT Dallas campus life.

A Final Requirement for Some Undergraduate Students

UT Dallas uses the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) to measure student proficiency in the basic areas of study for fulfillment of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirement. In addition, UT Dallas requires THEA as a placement test (measurement tool) for UT Dallas courses. Those who do not meet UT Dallas THEA standards will have a registration hold placed on their records.

Additional Requirements for International Freshmen

All International Visa Types:

• Submit the results from your TB test to the Student Health Center (for all students born outside the USA).
• Apply for a passport with your home country government (if you are currently outside the USA).
• Review procedures needed to enter U.S. (if you are currently outside the USA).
• Request airport pickup from a student organization (if you are currently outside the USA).
• Meet with an academic advisor and obtain a registration clearance code before registering.

F and J Visa Types Only:

• Submit documents to receive an I-20 (or DS2019) from the International Student Services Office (ISSO).
• Use your I-20 (or DS2019) and passport to apply for an F or J Visa.
• Attend international student orientation.
