Safety and Security

When students are interested in UT Dallas or any other university, they typically have questions about campus safety. At UT Dallas, we take a direct, proactive approach to safety. We work hard to teach students how to protect their possessions, and above all, how to keep themselves safe.

Student Patrol
The UT Dallas Police Department employs approximately 20 students who serve as Student Patrol Officers. Student patrol services include walking escorts, motorist assists, entry assists and performing other support service roles that do not require a commissioned police officer. Student Patrol Officers report about suspicious activity and safety issues while conducting their patrols and are equipped with police radios for instant communication purposes.

Emergency Phones (E-Phones)
Emergency call boxes are bronze in color on the academic portions of campus and blue in the residential areas of campus. All E-Phones have a blue light which illuminates at dusk. E-Phones are strategically located throughout campus and are designed for use in emergency situations. E-Phones are connected directly to the UT Dallas police communications center. If a call box is activated, a police officer will be dispatched to the location immediately.

Vehicle Assists
Vehicle assistance is offered to individuals who need a battery jump or have left their keys in their car and need unlock assistance. An officer will not be able to help with a vehicle unlock if a car has power locks. To request assistance, call the communications center at 972-883-2222.

Campus Escorts
A walking escort service is available 24 hours a day, year round. To request an escort, call 972-883-2222. A police officer, police guard,Student Patrol Officer or a police explorer will meet you at your location and walk with you to any area on campus.

Lost and Found
The police department maintains the lost and found for the University. If you find an item on campus, please bring it to the police department lobby. To check the status of a lost item, visit the lost and found website and submit an inquiry using the online form provided.
