When students are interested in UT Dallas or any other university, they typically have questions about campus safety. At UT Dallas, we take a direct, proactive approach to safety. We work hard to teach students how to protect their possessions and above all, how to keep themselves safe.
The UT Dallas Police Department employs approximately 20 Student Patrol Officers who provide campus escorts, vehicle assistance, entry assistance and other services that do not require a commissioned police officer. Student Patrol Officers report safety issues and suspicious activities while conducting their patrols and are equipped with police radios for instant communication purposes.
Emergency Phones (E-Phones)
Emergency call boxes are bronze in color in the academic areas of campus and blue in the residential areas. All E-Phones have a blue light that illuminates at dusk. E-Phones are strategically located throughout campus and are designed for use in emergency situations. E-Phones are connected directly to the UT Dallas police communications center. If a call box is activated, a police officer will be dispatched to the location immediately.
Vehicle assistance is offered to individuals who, for example, need a battery jump or have left their keys in their car. Officers are unable to help unlock vehicles that have power locks. To request assistance, call 972-883-2222.
A walking escort service is available 24 hours a day, every day throughout the year. To request an escort, call 972-883-2222. A police officer, police guard, Student Patrol Officer or Police Explorer will meet you at your location and walk with you to any area on campus.
Lost and Found
The Police Department maintains the lost and found for the University. If you find an item on campus, please bring it to the Police Department (PD building) lobby. To check the status of a lost item, submit an inquiry to the Police Department.
